Hulk advises Bernard to join Porto rather than Arsenal
When it comes to making the jump from South America to Europe, the Portuguese Primeira Liga has always been one of the best places for global talents acclimatise between the different styles of the two leagues.
Porto, in particular, has seen their fair share of stars come through the ranks with the likes of Deco and Hulk having made their breakthrough at the club.
Now, former Porto star striker Hulk, has advised promising Brazilian prospect Bernard to join the Liga Sagres champions rather than moving to the Premier League with Arsenal.
There has been a lot of speculation linking the Atletico Mineiro winger with The Gunners but fellow Brazilian Hulk feels that the player would be better off moving to Portugal.
The Zenit St. Petersburg striker has reportedly spoken to Bernard on several occasions about the matter with his father revealing the nature of the conversations with Hulk. In reports in O Jogo, Delio Duarte was reported saying that “Hulk has convinced Bernard that Porto would be better for him at this stage of his career.”
Hulk is certainly a figure who is talking from experience having made the jump to Portugal after experiencing football in both Brazil in Japan.
Having netted 54 goals in 100 appearances for Porto, the Brazilian still thinks fondly of his former side having become a global superstar during his time there.
But it wasn’t just Hulk’s influence that Duarte mentioned as he also commented about the potential move to The Emirates Stadium where revealed that there had been no official contact with Arsenal: “nothing is decided yet but we know there is interest from Arsenal. However, there has been nothing official from them.”
This reinforces the comments made earlier in the week by Arsene Wenger who himself scotched the reports of the club making a bid for Bernard after being questioned after they defeated Nagoya Grampus on their Asian tour.
Bernard had been thought as a replacement for the likes of Andrei Arshavin and Gervinho who have respectively left and on the verge of departing the club this summer.
Alongside that, Arsene Wenger has failed to bring in any major names so far this summer despite being given a vast budget to use.
Despite having money to spend, having stars such as Hulk advise against moving to England will certainly not make signing players any easier for Arsenal especially when pursuing hotly tipped talents such as Bernard.
