Chelsea defence were uncharacteristically generous in the first leg with the back line contributing to two of the PSG goals in a 3-1 loss.

A similar display on Tuesday would end any hopes of progressing and Jose Mourinho was keen to underline the need for a strong defensive performance.

“If you concede one goal versus Paris, or (keep) a clean sheet, we have a chance,” said Mourinho after Chelsea had eased to a 3-0 victory over Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday.

“If we concede two goals and we have to score five, we can’t do the job, so it’s important to defend well versus Paris.

“A clean sheet would be perfect but even if you concede one goal we will always be able to give them a fight.”

While Chelsea back four will once again have to deal with Edinson Cavani they won’t have to face Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the Swede ruled out following a torn hamstring in the first leg.

The injury is likely to see the striker on the treatment table for the foreseeable future and his absence will push former Napoli man Cavani, reportedly unhappy at playing out wide this season, in the more central role he prefers.

While Cavani scored in the club’s 3-0 win over Reims at the weekend, a result that left Laurent Blanc’s side requiring just five more points to secure the title, a number of players were rested for the trip to London with Ezequiel Lavezzi, Thiago Motta and Blaise Matuidi all unused.

The trio are expected to start on Tuesday along with Lucas Moura who is set to come in the on the right of the front three.

Chelsea meanwhile will be without the suspended Ramires while Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah are ineligible
