Jose Mourinho’s men currently lead the way from Arsenal with Manchester City and Liverpool looming large in the background.
With the Gunners and City both expected to win their games with Sunderland and Stoke respectively Chelsea will be keen to lay down the marker earlier in the day against the 6th place Toffees.
After a stunning season to date Everton have stumbled in recent weeks losing two and drawing one of their last four league games, a run of results that has seen them drop 8 points Liverpool in the race for fourth place.
Roberto Martinez has never won at Stamford Bridge as a Premier League manager but having seen his side beat Manchester United and draw with Arsenal on their own turf he will be quietly confident of getting a result.
Chelsea meanwhile will welcome back John Terry to their line-up. The former England defender has not played since the 1-0 win over Manchester City earlier in the month when he suffered a muscle injury.
The return of Terry will help ease the loss of David Luiz who misses out. Gary Cahill is struggling with a thigh injury ahead of the game but should be fit to play while Fernando Torres is also ready to play as he goes in search of his first start since the 2-0 win over Hull in January.
Everton meanwhile could have a Premier League debut to forward Lacina Traore. The on-loan Monaco striker scored on his debut against Swansea in the FA Cup last weekend and is poised for his EPL appearance with on loan Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku ineligible.
Steven Naismith is also set to make the squad despite his concussion last weekend while Antolin Alcaraz is fit again.
Long term absentee’s Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo are all out.
Everton beat the Blues earlier in the season, running out 1-0 winners thanks to a Naismith goal and Chelsea Jose Mourinho is expecting another tough clash.
“If we can beat Everton, it is a good weekend for us,” said Mourinho. “If we lose points at home, it’s never good.
“It doesn’t matter what happened in the past. We think we can beat them because we believe in ourselves.
“Everton are a good team, they defend well and are dangerous on the counter-attack. It’s a team with good balance.
“They are a very good team, playing very well and getting good results. They’re in a position that reflects their quality.”
