Chelsea raising interest in Serie A playmaker

Ilicic

As the club continue to be linked with a number of playmaking reinforcements, Palermo maestro, Josip Ilicic, is the latest name to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer as Chelsea hope to mount a stronger assault on the top four of the Premier League next season.

Injuries, a mangerial change and off pitch controversy have all contributed to what has been a poor league campaign for the West London side, leading many to criticise some of the current roster.

The unbalanced relationship between Frank Lampard and former manager Andre Vilas-Boas courted controversy early in the season and the former remains in the gossip pages regarding a possible move away from the club at the end of the season.

Salomon Kalou, Florent Malouda, Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel are just some of the other figures at Chelsea being associated with moves out of Stamford Bridge and could make way for a raft of new faces.

The Blues recently announced the capture of Marko Marin, who is set to arrive in July, but don’t appear keen on resting in their transfer market duties anytime soon.

Ilicic has made 28 starts for Palermo this season, scoring three goals and making six assists in the process.

The24 year-old still has four years left on his contract with his current Serie A side but could be tempted by a move to a team that just made their way to the Champions League final with the possibility of earning a cup double.

Due to the length of time left on his deal, the Slovenian international would be expected to cost a sum of around £12m should he make the switch to the English top flight.

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo admitted that he had little hand in the signature of Marin but will be keen to have as big an influence in any purchases as possible should he remain at the post in a permanent deal.
