Liverpool set to bid for Brazilian Defender
Liverpool are lining up a move for highly rated left back Guillerme Siqueira
According to reports in Spanish paper AS, the Reds are readying a bid, believed to be in the region of £12 million for the Granada star. That seems doomed for failure however with the players release clause believed to be closer to the £21 million mark.
A compromise between the two amount could be enough to seal a deal and with Liverpool pretty much breaking even this summer with captures of Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Kolo Toure being offset by the departures of Andy Carroll, Jonjo Shelvey and Pepe Reina the funds for a deal should be available.
The 27 year old has also been linked with a move to Everton, amid reports that Manchester United are making a move for Leighton Baines.
However Liverpool has moved ahead of their neighbours in the race for the Brazilian star. Red’s boss Brendan Rodgers has earmarked the left hand side of defence as an area that he wants to strengthen and want Siqueira to provide competition to current left back Jose Enrique.
With young defender Jack Robinson loaned out to Blackpool for the current season Rodgers has only one recognised left back in his squad while the versatile Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger has filled the position admirably in the past Rodgers would prefer a more comfortable left back in his squad.
Siqueira, who impressed as Granada maintained their La Liga status last season scoring 6 goals in 35 games, fits the bill and the defender has leaped ahead of Aly Cissokho, the Valencia defender many believed was close to a move to Anfield, as the club’s first choice.
Real Madrid are also keen on the player but will only move once a decision has been made over the future of Fabio Coentrao. The Portuguese defender is keen to leave the Bernabeu this summer but so far a move has failed to materialise.
The attack-minded left back has been repeatedly linked with Spurs throughout the summer but with the Gareth Bale transfer causing a real rift between the two clubs a deal has not yet come to fruition.
Should the Londoners agree a deal for the 25 year old either as part of the Bale deal or on their own then Real will rival Liverpool for the signature of Siqueira.
