£49m or bust for Arsenal in last effort to sign Suarez
It’s fair to say that the transfer saga surrounding Luis Suarez has fast become the story of pre-season as the controversial Uruguayan tries to secure a move away from the club.
Arsenal’s pursuit of the striker and Liverpool’s reluctance to sell have fuelled huge interest in the story but The Gunners are now preparing a bid that could see everything settled once and for all.
Despite Liverpool having already a £40m bid for the player, Arsenal are thought to be ready to pay £49m for the player in a last gasp effort to sign Suarez.
It’s thought that this is most likely going to be the final roll of the dice for Arsenal on the matter and the bid is thought to also contain numerous performance incentives that could benefit Liverpool in the future.
Such a bid is unheard from Arsenal in previous years as the club are desperate to land a big name before the window closes in a fortnight.
With the £49m triple that of the club’s current transfer record, it could finally tempt Liverpool into talking after they publicly refused and denied Arsenal’s two previous bids.
Liverpool was very much reliant on Suarez’s goals last season to keep them in the race for European places and owner John W. Henry is adamant that the Uruguayan isn’t going anywhere.
But the club’s stance on the situation isn’t the only thing that continues to change as Suarez’s own stance on the matter has taken yet another change of direction.
After a Uruguayan newspaper had claimed that the player now wanted to stay at Anfield, Suarez has come out denying that he made those comments.
In a press conference following on from Uruguay’s 4-2 friendly win over Japan, the player said that he still very much was seeking a move. In his comments, Suarez stated that “I didn’t say it. Maybe someone else did; the main thing is that I am here now with the national team.”
Despite his denial, Suarez has also maintained that the situation isn’t going to be resolved during the next couple of days as he maintains to keep silent over the matter whilst on international duty.
By placing such a large bid for a player, Arsenal are clearly showing signs of desperation in the transfer market and will hope that this last ditch bid will finally be enough for the club to make their first signing of the transfer window.
