Arsenal & Liverpool battle for Ajax Midfielder, trio set to leave Old Trafford
- Updated: June 3, 2013
As ever at this time of year, there are plenty of transfer rumours doing the rounds and a number of clubs might be looking to get their business done early to prepare for the new season.
David Moyes doesn’t look as though he is going to waste much time when it comes to doing business at Old Trafford and he could bring a couple of players that were superb for him during his time at Everton – Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines – to Manchester.
Moyes is a big fan of both Fellaini and Baines and believes they can offer a lot to the Premier League Champions. If he did bring them in, then the Scotsman could allow the likes of Nani, Anderson and even Patrice Evra to leave the club.
The new manager wants to build his own squad and we could see the first sign of that in the next few weeks.
Also, Cesc Fabregas is being liked with a move to Old Trafford after finding it tough to get in the first team at Barcelona. Fabregas is considered as an Arsenal legend by many Gunners’ fans, but they might have to watch him play in a United shirt next season.
Moyes left Everton of course and Roberto Martinez is expected to be named as the new man in charge as Goodison Park soon.
Martinez is another man that could raid his former club as if he does make the move to the Toffees as Shaun Maloney, Callum McManaman and James McCarthy are on his radar. The Spaniard might be able to get them at a decent price given the fact Wigan were relegated to the Championship.
He could also be keen on Queens Park Rangers’ Esteban Granero and Roberto Soldado from Valencia .
There are plenty of other clubs looking bring in some new faces in the next couple of weeks as well and Arsenal seem to be keen on Montpellier midfielder Younes Belhanda, who was impressive in Ligue 1 last season
Arsene Wenger does like the look of Christian Eriksen, as do Liverpool, but the Ajax midfielder looks as though he is on his way to Champions League finalists, Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund might be losing a few players in the summer, but they are on the lookout for some new recruits and Lukas Podolski is a man they are keeping their eye on. Arsenal might want to bring in a few forwards before letting the German talk to other clubs.
Liverpool have an eye on Eriksen, as well as Sunderland shot-stopper Simon Mignolet – should Pepe Reina leave Anfield and if Luis Suarez also heads out of Merseyside, Brendan Rodgers will make a move for Christian Benteke from Aston Villa.
Manchester City might not have a manager just yet, but they have been linked with a number of players and reports are suggesting they will spend a massive £80 million to secure the services of Isco, Abdil Rami and Jesus Navas. If they did manage to sign this trio, Man City would certainly show their intentions for the season.
Finally, Tottenham Hotspur aren’t giving up hope on signing Leandro Damiao and David Villa, but keeping Gareth Bale might be their priority in the closed season.
It is thought that Spurs are bracing themselves for a huge bid from Real Madrid that might be too good to turn down.
Thats all for you this Monday.
