Its the Paddy Power Gold Cup this afternoon at Cheltenham as popular Irish unit Paddy Power announce a new free bets offer and a new money back special for the three day event.
The jovial Dublin based firm report they will refund stakes if your horse falls at the last during any one of the races at Cheltenham this weekend, and with a gruelling 2m 4f to run, the offer is certainly attracting the attention of punters.
Its all part of a heavily invested marketing drive for the popular bookmaker, and with over 70,000 racegoesrs set to decend on the leafy village in Gloucestershire, the firm are expecting a bumper turnover as racing fans get their first real taste of Cheltenham this season.
PADDY POWER GOLD CUP DAY
Pddy Power have announced they are offering free bets worth £250 to customers to spend on any race at the three day Cheltenham Open Meeting this weekend, – They’ll also refund bets should your horse fall at the last hurdle!
Paddy Power spokesman commented: “The Cheltenham Festival is the jewel in the crown in the National Hunt season season, and the November Open Meeting gives fans and punters alike a chance to taste the air and atmosphere of Cheltenham for the first time this season, and pick out some pointers for the forthcoming season. Of course, our feature race, the Paddy Power Gold Cup is the highlight of the weekend.”
The waiting is finally over for jump racing fans as racegoers descend to Prestury Park in Cheltenham for the first top race of the new season, the Paddy Power Gold Cup, which takes place at 15:00.
It should be an exhilarating spectacle, with over 70,000 spectators over the three day event, made all the more interesting with the exclusion of the 5/1 ante post favourite Dynaste, who was withdrawn from the race by trainer David Pipe on Thursday, leaving only Ballynagour from the Pipe yard.
Rajdhani Express, ridden by emerging Cheltenham favourite Sam Waley-Cohen and Nadiya De La Vega, both a backable at 12/1 lead the Nicky Henderson yard along with Finian’s Rainbow, the 2012 Queen Mother Champion Chase winner looking more than worth a shout at 14/1.
One horse which is attracting plenty of money from punters this morning has been the Martin Keighley trained Champion Court. The eight year old is now as short as 7/1 in some places.
Keighly commented : ‘He has had a fantastic preparation for the Paddy Power and this race was always his aim, I felt he was not right after he ran in the King George on Boxing Day, but he has summered really well, loves Cheltenham and the ground should be perfect.’
AP McCoy looks to push for more winners after breaking the 4000 winners mark this week on board the Jonjo O’Neill trained Tap night, which can be backed at 16/1.
First up at 13:15 is the Roy Blandford 65 Years At Cheltenham Novices Chase, and with only six runners we fancy a bit of LE BEC, which is available at around 4/1.
