Adel Taarabt in £8m move to Newcastle from QPR
The enigma that is Adel Taarabt could be about to jump ship at QPR and move to Newcastle, in a deal which could be worth £8m.
Alan Pardew is a keen admirer of the talents of the flamboyant Moroccan, who won the Championship Player of the Season award for his inspirational performances in a QPR side that won the title last season.
Thing haven’t really worked out for him in the same vein this season. Manager Neil Warnock has questioned his attitude on numerous occasions, dropping him from the side at times, but has brought him back into the fold lately, although his performances still haven’t hit the heights of last year. He is still waiting to open his Premier League account in a side that are slipping alarmingly down the table, ever nearer to the relegation places.
There is also a feeling around the club that Taarabt feels let down by the QPR board, who reportedly promised him a new contract and a £30,000 a week rise in wages at the start of the season but have never delivered on their word. He came close to joining Paris St Germain over the summer, but was assured of a new contract and to play a pivotal role in QPR’s first season back in the Premier League after a 15-year hiatus.
Neither, unfortunately for Taarabt, has happened and Newcastle are reportedly monitoring the situation.
Pardew has always believed in the talents of the gifted attacker and feels that his relaxed managerial style would benefit the player in enabling to fulfil his maximum potential.
Whether Newcastle chairman Mike Ashley will stump up the cash for the somewhat controversial, and erratic, character is another question – but Pardew will try his hardest to convince him in order to get his man.
