Bayer Leverkusen Barcelona Team News Free Bets as Pep Guardiola seeks solace in Champions League
Bayer Leverkusen v Barcelona 19:45 Tues
Barcelona will be hoping to put domestic distractions aside on Tuesday when they clash against Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of their Round of 16 fixture as Bet365 make Barcelona odds on favourites as they make the trip to the BayArena.
The Spaniards face a difficult trip to Leverkusen as they’ll face off against a team who kept a pristine home record in the group stage of the competition with victories over Chelsea, Valencia and Genk.
The current Champions League title-holders will pose a very real threat to that record however, scoring 29 goals in their last ten outings across all competitions.
That being said, Leverkusen can take small comfort in knowing that Barcelona lost their last fixture away at Osasuna and could be in a particularly vulnerable spot at the moment.
However, Robin Dutt’s side haven’t been nearly as affective as Barça when going forward this campaign, scoring only eight goals in their six Champions League matches with Eren Derdiyok the only player to score more than one goal.
The last time Leverkusen made it into the last eight of the Champions League exactly ten season ago, they managed to make it all the way to the final before losing to Real Madrid.
Fate may also be playing into the hands of Leverkusen as although Barcelona are unbeaten in Germany in their last seven trips, it was Bayer Leverkusen that brought about their last loss in the country in 2001.
The Germans are in for a hard time though and will have to go up against the Spanish giants without key figures Eren Derdiyok, Michael Ballack and Sidney Sam who have all been ruled out through injury.
