Chelsea eyeing up move for City misfit
With both clubs achieving great things in their own respect this season, it has emerged that Chelsea and Manchester City could be set to do business this summer regarding the signature of James Milner.
Despite winning the Premier League, Milner has had to settle for a more minor role at the Etihad Stadium over the last nine months.
The 26 year-old has taken a bit of a backseat in the first-team plans this season in comparison to when he first signed for the club, making just 17 starts in the 2011-12 Premier League campaign.
The Blues have already signed Kevin de Bruyne and Marko Marin recently but aren’t expected to stop there when it comes to transfer business.
Regardless of their Champions League triumph, a number of the Chelsea playing staff are expected to leave the club in the coming months including Salomon Kalou, Florent Malouda, Jose Bosingwa and Raul Meireles.
Milner will undoubtedly be pleased at tying up a league title but with Chelsea achieving a cup double last season, the chances for trophies looks potentially as fruitful at Stamford Bridge.
Should Milner complete a move away from Eastlands this summer, his signature would be expected to cost around £15m.
Across all competitions, the midfielder made 40 appearances for Manchester City this season, scoring three goals and registering five assists in the process.
While silverware success looks a near certainty for the Citizens in the coming years, Milner may jump at the chance to once again feature as part of a starting line-up; something which is far from assured in his current surroundings.
Considering the raft of players that may leave the West London outfit this summer, the England international would certainly have a better shot of making his way onto the teamsheet at Chelsea and could be open to a move.
