Liverpool enquire about Sahko
Liverpool have made an enquiry to Paris Saint Germain about the availability of defender Mamadou Sahko.
The French defender struggled to maintain a consistent position in the P.S.G starting XI last campaign and talks have stalled about a new contract.
Liverpool conceded just 43 goals last season; however the form of Martin Skrtel frequently was brought into question, whilst the retirement of legend Jamie Carragher will no doubt have left a huge gaping hole at the club.
Kolo Toure has been brought and the experienced defender will go some way to replacing Carragher, however Liverpool feel they need another centre-back.
Sahko has been touted by many of Europe’s finest clubs, with Real Madrid and Barcelona book taking a look at the defender. The 2012/13 season campaign was a frustrating one for Sahko though and despite Paris’s title success, on a personal note last year was a backwards step in his progression.
The 23-year-old certainly has the best years of his career ahead of him and if Liverpool could prize the French international away from P.S.G then they have someone who could be with the club for years.
Brendan Rodgers has certainly been active this window, with the signings of Toure, Simon Mignolet, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto already confirmed. Next on the former Swansea managers’ wish list appears to be a defender and Sahko is his main target.
Another centre-half on Rodgers’ wishlist is the Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulous.
The Schalke man has been linked with an exit from the club for sometime, however has remained at the club since 2010.
Injuries have really blighted the progress of the talented youngster and Liverpool would love to bring him to the club.
Schalke have already signed Felipe Santana from Borussia Dortmund this summer which has only added the speculation that Papadopoulous is off.
Whilst many have come through the famous Anfield doors this summer, Jonjo Shelvey looks set to depart.
Shelvey has been heavily criticised this year, however has played quite frequently (granted from the sub bench more often that not) and has improved as a player.
Swansea are willing to bid £5million for the former Charlton player, however Liverpool are holding out for £7million.
The likes of Fulham and Aston Villa have been linked with loan moves, however Liverpool will want to sell the player permanently to help fund the amount of incoming transfers they’ve made this year.
Although Shelvey won’t be allowed to leave on loan, both Andre Wisdom and John Flanagan could be set for short-term deals away from the club.
