Real have been in impressive form in recent weeks, winning eight and drawing two of their last 10 games, and they will head into the game on the back of a 3-0 win over Levante last weekend.

Malaga have also been in good form in recent games and are currently sit 13th in the table on 29 points. The club have drawn with Almeira and Real Valladolid as well as beating Osasuna in their last three games, the upsurge in form a relief to Bernd Schuster after five defeats in seven prior games.

Despite their rise up the table, the club are still just three points off the relegation zone and with games coming up against those around and below them, the club could focus their attentions elsewhere.

Real Madrid won 2-0 when the two sides met earlier in the season but the club will remember their last meeting at La Rosaleda when they lost 3-2, a result that was Malaga’s first win over Real since promotion in 1999.

However Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been relentless in their pursuit for a 33rd league title and having climbed to the summit in recent weeks they will be unwilling to let up with 11 games to go.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale have been key to Real recent form with the trio contributing eight goals in their last five games and the attackers will once again be crucial to any Madrid success.

While Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema have been the shining lights up front, the Real defence has also played their part with three clean sheets in their last four games but they will have to continue that record this weekend without the services of the suspended Sergio Ramos.

Ramos serves a one-match suspension following his booking against Levante, so Pepe is expected to partner Raphael Varane. Alvaro Arbeloa and long-term absentee Sami Khedira both miss out with knee injuries.

Malaga meanwhile will be without suspended pair Jesus Gamez and Sergi Darder while Eliseu (virus), Mounir El Hamdaoui (knee) and Weligton (muscular) also miss out.
