A second half fight-back was not enough in the end as the Reds snatched a late win. The result left the club 7 points off top spot but with their destiny out of their hands, despite two games in hands on those above them.
Despite the set-back, which left the club relying on a slip up by Liverpool, defender Martin Demichelis insists that City will not give up their chase for a second title in three years.
“We will fight until the end. No-one left the stadium thinking they were champions,” former Atletico Madrid defender said.
“Obviously we are not happy about the result but we know we have still got matches ahead. We have seen in football that we can still win and they can make mistakes.
“Hopefully we will win the rest and there will be some mistakes from Liverpool.
“I can only complain about how unlucky we were. We should have got a draw at least – their only clear chance in the second half came from our mistake.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t bring a more positive result to our fans, but we can still bring something positive from now until the end.”

Sunderland meanwhile are sweating on the fitness of striker Steven Fletcher as he continues to suffer with an ankle problem while will definitely be without the suspended Phil Bardsley.
Gus Poyet’s men have been in free-fall since their defeat in the Capital One final to Wednesday’s hosts. The Black Cats have picked up one point since that 3-1 defeat and will head into the game with five defeats from their last five games.
The club have proved to be a thorn in City’s side in recent years however, and prior to the League cup final have won both previous meetings between the sides 1-0.
