Ashley Williams be finally ready to move across the border?

Swansea City have been one of the standout teams in the Premier League since their promotion 2 years ago and current captain Ashley Williams has been arguably their best player throughout this period.

Despite enjoying Carling Cup success last season with the Welsh side, it seems as if Williams could be about to jump ship with Arsenal being the most likely destination for the defender.

Williams has been linked with many top Premier League sides in the last few months but the Wales captain has seemingly decided that he would like to make a move to the Emirates if possible.

Many people had thought Arsenal were going to make bids for the player in the last two transfer windows but the £10 million valuation has been a major hurdle in any possible deal.

Already at 29, Williams is now entering the peak of his career and has been keen to compete at the very highest level possible in England which would only be doable with a top 4 side.

Should Williams choose to sign for the Gunners, it would cast doubt on the future of several members of Arsenal’s defensive line-up.

Both Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen have been the subject of fierce transfer speculation and that one or if not both players could leave by the end of August.

Koscielny has been drawing a lot of attention recently with the defender fuelling flames that he could be ready to move to win trophies sparking interest from both Barcelona and current Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Questions have already been raised about the future of Thomas Vermaelen with the current captain hardly playing in the second half of the season.

This had meant that the defender could possibly move to somewhere in Europe but the Belgian has re-iterated his desire to win back his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up.

If Arsenal were to lose one of their current defenders and make a move for Williams, they are set to face fierce competition from several sides in a bid to land Williams signature.

Liverpool have expressed an interest in signing him in an attempt to bolster their defences whilst new Everton manager Roberto Martinez could be keen to be reunited with the very same player who he signed for Swansea 5 years ago.

Williams is undoubtedly in the best form of his career and with several of England’s best sides ready to splash the cash for the defender, don’t be surprised to see him make the move back across the border in the next few weeks.
