As much fuss there has been over players joining the club over the summer, it’s the departures list that has done the talking so far with several fringe players having already left the club.
The likes of Andrei Arshavin, Sebastian Squillaci and Denilson have already bid farewell to The Gunners and it seems that Gervinho could very well be the next player to leave the Emirates.
The Ivory Coast international featured mainly as a substitute last season for Arsenal and the lack of first team opportunities have alerted the likes of Roma and Lyon to the winger’s services.
Italian big spenders Roma are favourites to sign Gervinho and have made an official bid for the player which is expected to be around £7m.
Lyon are also thought to be in the hunt for the player and whilst they are not expected to make a higher bid than Roma, the French club are ready to offer creative midfielder Yohan Gourcuff as part of a deal.
Gourcuff is a player that is highly regarded by Arsene Wenger and could be seen as a player who the club needs to help strengthen their midfield for the upcoming season.
For Gervinho, a move away from The Emirates could be very well what the player needs with his career starting to stagnate in London.
The Ivorian has struggled for form since joining from Lille two years ago scoring just 11 goals in 63 appearances for Arsenal.
Alongside the issues to find the net, Gervinho has often been blamed for some of Arsenal’s misfortunes which have further affected the player’s chance of becoming an established part of the first team squad.
However, Gervinho’s international form has polarised that when he is with Arsenal with the winger putting in a string of accomplished performances for the Ivory Coast.
The winger has been a consistent threat in recent internationals and he has scored 5 goals for his country over the past year – one goal more than he managed in the Premier League for Arsenal.
Despite these glimpses, it doesn’t seem like Arsenal have any future plans for the Ivorian who has even been left out of the club’s pre-season tour squad to the Far East.
With there being no shortage of clubs interested in signing Gervinho, it seems that Arsenal are set to sell yet another player who has failed to make the grade at the club in recent years.
