Arsenal are ready to offer Liverpool their choice of three players as they look to close out a deal for top target Luis Suarez.
According to Caughtoffside.com the Gunners are set to reduce their cash offer for the player but will give Liverpool their pick of Thomas Vermaelen, Aaron Ramsey or Gervinho.
Arsene Wenger is willing to let his Anfield counterpart, Brendan Rodgers, have his pick of the trio and values each of them at the £10 million mark. That would take the total amount of the deal to £38 million, a sum close to Liverpool’s valuation of the player.
Rodgers is on the search for defensive re-enforcements and could be tempted by the inclusion of Belgian star Vermaelen. The former Ajax star is no longer guaranteed a starting berth in the Arsenal line up with Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker the preferred first choice pairing at the Emirates.
The 27 year old lost his place after a number of high profile errors last season and has been linked with a move away this summer. Barcelona were believed to be interested in a move earlier in the summer but they have yet to formalise their interest.
While Rodgers is keen to strengthen his backline it is unlikely that Vermaelen will make a move to Merseyside after it emerged that the defender had suffered a stress fracture to his lower and faces three months on the sidelines, ruling him out of the start of the season.
While it is unlikely that Gervinho, a target for Roma, Marseille and Galatasaray, would interest Rodgers especially as he yet to find his feet following his move to Arsenal in 2011 the former Swansea manager could be interested in taking Welsh international Ramsey.
The 22 year old has shown glimpses of his potential during his five years at Anfield and his versatility not to mention his comfort with a passing game would make him an appealing prospect.
However Liverpool have a plethora of options in the middle of the field and with a centre-back, an attacking midfielder and the forward line a priority Rodgers may decide that Ramsay is not a pressing option for now.
That fact that Arsenal are willing to offer three important squad members signal their desire to snap up the 26 year old Suarez all signals the end of Wenger’s interest in Gonzalo Higuain.
The Real Madrid man is on his way out of the Bernabeu this summer but while many believed his final destination would be London reports now suggest that Napoli have emerged as the front-runners.
The Serie A side have plenty of cash in the bank to do a deal following the sale of Edinson Cavani and are expected to make a move in the coming days for the striker meaning Arsenal will be all the more keen to tie up a deal very quickly for Suarez.
