Arsenal preparing £25m bid for Michu

After their dismal showing at the weekend, it was clear to see that Arsenal were lacking in almost every department on the field.

It seems that their 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa as spurred the club into action in the transfer market with The Gunners preparing to buy several targets over the next week or so.

First up in the club’s sight is Swansea’s Spanish superstar Michu with senior officials ready to pay £25m to sign the attacking midfielder.

Having been one of the signings of last season, Wenger is seeing Michu as a player who could help give the sign a bit more of a clinical edge in front of goal.

Alongside that, Arsenal are lacking in quality in their frontline having sold several fringe players over the summer and the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain being on the long-term injury list.

The Gunners cause may also be helped with a mutual agreement between Michu and Swansea Chairman Huw Jenkins who is thought to have agreed that the player can leave The Liberty Stadium if they receive a bid of £25m or higher.

Michu stunned the Premier League last season by regularly showing scintillating form scoring 18 goals in 35 matches for The Swans.

This form eclipsed anything achieved by Arsenal’s players last season where Theo Walcott led the scoring charts with 14 goals – 4 behind the Spaniard.

Arsenal’s re-sparked interest in Michu comes after the club have failed in their pursuit to sign a top quality striker so far this summer.

The club have placed bids for the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez but none have matched the valuation set by their parent clubs.

There are still reports that The Gunners are preparing a £49m offer for Luis Suarez but with Liverpool still standing their ground on the issue, a move for the Uruguayan is seeing increasingly unlikely.

Arsenal are also looking for defensive reinforcements after Saturday’s game left the club with potentially 3 first team defenders.

It’s thought that Wenger is eyeing up a bid for Micah Richards whose fate at Man City is still yet to be decided under new boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Any defensive signing would come as a relief for Wenger who will only have Carl Jenkinson and Per Mertesacker as his only fully fit players after Kieran Gibbs and Bacary Sagna picked up knocks and Laurent Koscielny receiving at least a one game suspension after being sent off.

With more and more stress being placed on Wenger and his team, it seems that the sleeping giant that has been Arsenal is about to wake up and take the league by storm.
