When a team such as Real Madrid has such a high amount of top players in their squad, there will always be one or two players who are going to be unsettled at the club.
Surprisingly, the most discontent figure at the Santago Bernabeu is German playmaker Mesut Ozil who publicly showed is frustration at the club over the weekend.
Ozil was substituted midway through the second half of Madrid’s 1-0 victory at Granada but immediately got changed and headed to the bus instead of sitting on the bench with his teammates.
The 27 year old is thought to be upset at being offered to clubs across Europe as Real look to make room for yet more signings – most likely Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez.
With the Bale transfer taking up a lot of financial resources, Madrid have looked to offer some of their big names such as Ozil as a makeweight and ease any issues on the wage budget.
The growing animosity between player and club could mean that Arsenal could pull off a shock swoop for the German who has been a target of Arsene Wenger in the past.
With the pursuit for Suarez dead in the water and Karim Benzema saying no to The Gunners, an unsettled Ozil could just be what Arsenal are looking for in the transfer market.
Having been a standout player for both Real and Germany over the past couple of seasons, Ozil would be a signing that would satisfy many discontent fans frustrated with Arsenal’s lack of new signings.
But the German winger isn’t the only frustrated figure at Real that Arsenal is also interested in with the club also looking at Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
The Real Madrid legend has surprisingly been dropped over the past year from the first team squad in favour of back-up keeper Diego Lopez.
Casillas fell out of favour after having a personal dispute with former manager Jose Mourinho and Diego Lopez has shown consistent form under Carlo Ancelotti to warrant him worthy of a starting place.
With Casillas looking out of the picture for the moment, it could provide The Gunners with an ample opportunity to sign one of the world’s best goalkeepers and strengthen an area that has long been a weak spot for Arsenal.
It’s no secret that disgruntled and unsettled players are easy to sign and now might be the only chance that Arsenal get to sign top names such as Ozil and Casillas.
