Arsenal snap up Danny Welbeck

Arsenal made a last minute dip into the transfer marker as they swooped for Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck.

The player has moved to London for reported £16 million fee and will give the Gunners cover with Olivier Giroud out injured.

The 23 year old England international was the subject of interest from a host of club after being informed by Louis Van Gaal that he was no longer wanted at Old Trafford.

Newcastle, Everton, Hull and Tottenham were all keen on the forward however it was the Gunners who moved for the player in the closing hours of the window.

No details of the deal have been revealed however it is believed that Welbeck will sign a long term deal at the Emirates.

The forward has scored 20 goals in 90 league games for United with his strike rate even more impressive at International level where the player has 8 goals in 26 games.

He made his debut for the club under Sir Alex Ferguson but rose to prominence at loan at Sunderland. Often deployed on the left during his time at Old Trafford Welbeck has been out of the picture so far this season with his only start coming in the club’s 4-0 defeat to MK Dons in the Capital One cup.

The departure of Welbeck was not the only striker business completed by United with Javier Hernandez also leaving the club for Real Madrid with the pair replaced by the stunning capture of Radamel Falcao.
