The Gunners winger has handed manager Arsene Wenger a huge fitness boost after resuming training but still has an outside chance of making a comeback in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
The England international has made just two substitute appearances for the London giants since recovering from a serious knee injury that had consigned him to the treatment table for nine months. However, on Thursday, the former Southampton player trained with the first team and Wenger is considering naming the winger in the squad that travels to Anfield this weekend.
The return of the mercurial winger is a huge plus for Wenger whose workforce is already depleted with many first team players out of action. Jack Wilshere (ankle), Mesut Ozil (knee), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Mikel Arteta (calf), Laurent Koscielny (achilles) and Tomas Rosicky (thigh) are not going to play any part in the game against the Reds but Nacho Monreal has a chance of being available for selection after shaking off a groin injury sustained during last week’s 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle United.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the other hand, is likely to feature in the game at Anfield but as a precaution, was not allowed to train with the first-team on Wednesday.
