Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on recently retired former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and thanked him for the contributions he made to football in a career that spanned almost two decades.
The former France international closed curtains on an illustrious career a few days back and during his days, won everything most footballers can only dream about. And despite being the bane of Chelsea during his Arsenal days on numerous occasions, Mourinho had nothing but words of praise for the former Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona and New York Red Bulls star.
When asked about his reaction to Henry’s decision to hang up his boots, the outspoken Portuguese tactician admitted that he felt emotional after he reading about the striker’s decision.
Mourinho says that it is always sad to hear about top players retiring from the game but added that it was really nice to know about Henry’s wonderful journey and career.
“I’m always very sad when the big players stop their careers,” the Portuguese admitted. “But, at the same time, when I read about his wonderful journey and the way he enjoyed his career, and the way he looks forward for the rest of his life, I’m happy.
Mourinho believes that Henry has retired as a person who is content with what his playing career has given him and believes him to stay connected with the game for years to come.
