The former England international believes that Arsenal’s latest signing might never be able to make the sort of impact that many people expect him to for the Gunners
The former Czech Republic international secured an 11 million pound move to the Emirates this summer from Chelsea and is expected to be the club’s new number 1 for the next campaign. The former Stade Rennais man has been one of the best keepers in the Premier League for the past ten years but Shilton feels that he might not be able to replicate his success at Stamford Bridge.
“He is not getting any younger. I have always rated him, he is a top quality good goalkeeper, but I’ve just thought on a few occasions that when Chelsea struggled, he struggled a bit sometimes.
“He was playing behind a really good defence at Chelsea and that gives you confidence week in, week out but if he doesn’t get that cover we will see if he has that top quality and that confidence to perform.” – The Englishman told talkSPORT in an interview.
