Arsene Wenger reveals that he never wanted to sign Raheem Sterling

The Arsenal manager has revealed that he had never made any plans of signing the England international from Liverpool

The talented winger has finally sealed a big money yet controversial move to Manchester City from Liverpool and before all that happened, was hotly linked with a move to The Emirates with rumours claiming that the Gunners did table an offer for the youngster which was rejected by the Reds.

However, Wenger has come out and stated that the London giants never approached Liverpool for the services of Sterling because he has already loads of players playing in a role similar to that of the young Englishman.

“It looked a done deal for a while because Sterling was adamant he wanted the move,” said Wenger after touching down at Singapore’s Changi Airport.

“It is a good buy for Man City. It is an expensive one but they can afford it.

“We never considered it because he plays in an area where we have plenty of players. We have [Theo] Walcott, [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain, [Alexis] Sanchez, [Jack] Wilshere who can play wide, [Serge] Gnabry, so we have plenty of players and he’s a wide player basically, or behind the striker.”
