Mikel Arteta to fight for his place

The Spanish midfielder was disappointed with his displays last season and is now prepared to prove his worth to his manager ahead of the new campaign

The former Everton man was unable to shine the way he usually does last season for the Gunners largely due to the fact that constant injuries kept him away from the field. Clearly frustrated by injury concerns from last season, the Arsenal captain says that he is now going to fight for his place in the starting XI and will do everything he can in order to remain fit for the entirety of the new campaign.

The Spaniard also revealed that he has not signed an extension with the club because he needs to prove his worth first.

“I had to decide whether I could do another good season here and I believe I can,” Arteta said.

“The good thing about football is I have learnt over the years, it doesn’t matter what you did last week. So what I have done six months or a year ago, doesn’t matter. Everyone starts from zero at the beginning of the season. You have to earn your place.”
