The Chelsea manager feels that every club has spent a lot of money in the transfer market in recent years and pointed his finger to the Arsenal manager as an example
Ahead of the two teams’ showdown at the Community Shield in August, Jose Mourinho has already drawn first blood in what could potentially be a war of words between him and the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. The Chelsea boss suggests that Wenger needs a calculator in response to the Frenchman’s bemoaning of his team’s inability to win the league in the last few years due to the spending of some clubs.
“If you add up the amounts the clubs have spent in the last three or four years I think maybe you will find a surprise,” he told reporters.
“Get a calculator. That is one of the easiest things to do. It leaves no space for speculation. If you want to be honest, objective and pragmatic it is the easiest job for a manager or a journalist to do.
“They have bought a fantastic goalkeeper and that is a position which is very important in a team.
“If you put [Mesut] Ozil plus [Alexis] Sanchez, plus [Calum] Chambers, plus [Mathieu] Debuchy you will maybe find a surprise.”
