Goals from Cheikhou Kouyate and Mauro Zarate sealed 2-0 win for East London club as Arsenal new boy Petr Cech suffered a miserable debut at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger’s Premier League opening day started in worst possible fashion as Gunners endured 2-0 thrashing from West Ham in front of their fans. Former Chelsea man, Petr Cech, played shockingly poor and made some total blunders that cost Arsenal two goals.
“I think our performance was not convincing,” Arsene Wenger said after the game.
“We were punished. On top of that, we gave two very cheap goals away.”
“I can’t see many convincing individual performances today,” he added.
Meanwhile, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic enjoyed a dream debut at Emirates Stadium.
“It was a big win for us, not only because we got three points, not only because we won, but because we beat a team that is one of the title contenders this year and had played really well this preseason,” Bilic said after the match.
“Not only that, but it was a London derby. That makes it a bit more special.”
