Its a true London Derby taking place at Wembley this Saturday, but that is hardly saying much when it’s the FA Cup Final. Both sides will be going all out to try and secure some silverware, although for somewhat different reasons.
Antonio Conte has already taken the Premier League by storm this season. Having finished in a shocking 10th position last season, Chelsea have gone from villians to hero’s in the eyes of their fans this year, notching up an impressive 93 points in the bag, winning themselves the Premier League title. However, the Italian manager will unlikely be content with that, and as his sides go in as favourites to take the FA Cup home, he’ll likely be expecting his starting 11 to make it a double for Chelsea in his first season.
Arsenal on the other hand have arguably had their worst season throughout the Wenger era.
Having consistently qualified for the Champions League for 19 seasons in a row, many fans had become agitated that the board were seemingly content with a top 4 finish. However, instead of improvements upon this, the Reds have slipped too often this season, and despite picking up all 15 points in their last five games, the London club finished 5th in the table missing out on the Champions League next season.
As a result, Wenger will be looking to soften the blow and criticism he has faced by reclaiming the FA Cup in this game. However, this will be a tougher task than he faced back in 2015 as the Reds smashed Aston Villa 4-0 in the final. This Chelsea team that we have seen this year embodies work rate and intensity, two things that ultimately many will feel Arsenal have lacked this season. If they are to stand a chance in taking home the trophy, they will need to perform better against a top club, something which they have struggled to do all season, making the blues favourites for this one in my eyes.
