It appears that Mathieu Debuchy’s move to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice has collapsed, despite reportedly being close to completion.
This news comes as RMC Sport reports that Nice are close to completing the signing of 33-year-old Christophe Jallet from Lyon.
Debuchy’s compatriot is expected to confirm his move within the next few hours, meaning that the Arsenal players torrid time at the Emirates may not be over yet.
Debuchy has 2 years left on his current deal, and manager Arsene Wenger is finding him difficult to offload, despite him being for sale for quite some time.
The forgotten French right back still looks set to leave Arsenal after three seasons this Summer – in which time he only amassed 13 Premier League appearances for the club – whenever a buyer comes along.
Signing from Newcastle for €12 Million in 2014 as a replacement for Manchester City-bound Bacary Sagna, Debuchy’s career in an Arsenal shirt never really took off.
After a serious ankle injury restricted his playing time soon after his arrival, the revelationary Hector Bellerin made the positon his own, and the former Lille man hasn’t had much of a look-in since.
His debut season ended with him not making the match day squad for the FA cup final against Aston Villa. Things didn’t get much better for the Frenchman, as he spent the next season on loan with Bordeaux in Ligue 1 and the most recent season ravaged with injuries that prevented him from playing.
On his day, and injury-free, Debuchy has proven to be a reliable defender, and has received 27 caps playing for his country. It is expected that he, along with teammates Carl Jenkinson, Wojciech Szczesny and Kieran Gibbs will be departing in the near-future in a defensive reshuffle at the North London club.
