Arsenal facing battle for €30m Fiorentina hitman

Incoming Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is rumoured to be ready to join battle with Arsenal for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic.

Arsenal have been tracking the Montenegrin since April, however it appears that Mourinho is interested in beating them to the player to make him his first signing of his second spell at Chelsea.

The Portuguese boss is expected sign a four-year contract on Monday at Stamford Bridge, and will earn £12million a year.

Mourinho will attempt to bring in a number of players to Chelsea, and it is no secret that he is in the market for a new striker.

Despite announcing earlier this week that he wants Romelu Lukaku to stay rather than go out on loan, the club has been tracking Jovetic as well as Wayne Rooney and Edison Cavani.

However, at this current stage, Cavani appears to be to expensive even for Chelsea, as he will cost around £52million, as well as his demands of £250,000 a week wages.

A figure at the club revealed: “Jovetic is a definite option for Chelsea. Cavani at the moment is too expensive.”

Arsenal are desperate to bring Jovetic to the Emirates to emphasise that they are ready to spend big this summer and bring some massive names to the club.

Although, this would not be the first time Chelsea have snatched a player from under Arsenal’s noses, as they once tracked Juan Mata and Eden Hazard.

Jovetic is expected to cost around €30m, and Fiorentina’s general manager Sandro Mencucci has revealed that the 23-year-old is looking for a new experience.

Mencucci said, “Jovetic wants a new experience and we’ll try to make him happy, but only if a suitable offer comes in.”

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is hoping to bring in three or four significant signings this summer, and has also said that they are interested in Jovetic.

This would be a massive blow to the club as they see the player as an ideal signing to due his age and position.

Arsenal struggled for an out and out goal scorer last season following the departure of Robin Van Persie.

Fiorentina failed to reach the Champions League this season and this is part of the reason Jovetic desires a move away from the Italian club.

Manchester City were also rumoured to be interested in the Montenegro international, however they have turned their attention to Cavani as it is expected that Edin Dzeko will be part of the deal with Napoli.

Arsenal meanwhile are also hoping to sign Swansea defender Ashley Williams as they look to bolster their defence, however it has been speculated that this will result in club captain Thomas Vermaelen leaving the club.

Stevan Jovetic remains Arsenal’s number one target and will attempt to strike a deal with the player in the near future.

Jose Mourinho deal has been agreed in principle with owner Roman Abramovich, and is expected to arrive in London on Sunday to confirm the contract on Monday, following his last game at Real Madrid at Osasuna on Saturday.
