Since Arsene Wenger have been at Arsenal, he has found enormous success in the transfer market by bringing in players who have established themselves in French football.
After yesterday’s signing of Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre, it seems like Arsenal are set to continue their focus on Ligue 1 as the club look to strengthen their squad even further by targeting two players who impressed across the Channel last season.
One of the major targets for the club is Lyon winger Clement Grenier who is increasingly being linked with a move to the club.
Grenier has refused to deny reports that he is going to be leaving Stade Gerland over the summer and it seems that Arsenal could be his preferred destination.
Speculation has been increased even further following comments made by Arsene Wenger who compared Grenier to former Gunners star Samir Nasri. In the Daily Express, Wenger was quoted as saying “his intelligence of play pleases me. He has interesting qualities. He reminds me of Nasri.”
Whilst comparisons to Nasri may not go down too well with some fans, it’s hard to argue with Grenier’s form over the past 12 months where he has notched up 32 appearances scoring 7 goals and also making his full debut for the French national side.
But the Lyon winger may be forced to share the spotlight with The Gunners also being linked with a bid for Ivory Coast defender Serge Aurier.
The Toulouse right back has enjoyed a couple of strong seasons since signing for Les Pitchouns back at the start of last season and has been earning the interest of many top sides in Europe.
Alongside that, Aurier recently posted a picture of himself in an Arsenal shirt on Twitter which has understandably sparked rumours of a bid for the defender.
It’s thought that the Ivorian is seen as a replacement for Bacary Sagna should contract negotiations fail with the Frenchman.
Sagna’s current contract expires at the end of the current season and has been the target of both PSG and Monaco in the last few weeks.
With Sagna’s future at the Emirates still unclear, it means that The Gunners are probably going to wait until his future is resolved before making any pursuit for Aurier.
After Grenier and Aurier enjoyed stellar seasons in Ligue 1, don’t be surprised to see if one or both players are playing in the Premier League in August even if it isn’t for Arsenal.
