Manchester close to Negredo deal as Arsenal eye Suarez

Manchester City have lined up Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo to replace the recently departed Carlos Tevez.

New City boss Manuel Pellegrini has made a striker his priority after selling Tevez to Juventus last month and doubts over the future of Edin Dzeko, linked with Chelsea and Arsenal.

The former Malaga boss has been linked with a host of world-class names including Edinson Cavani but now appears to have settled on a move for Negredo.

The 27 year old impressed for Seville last season scoring 25 goals and has been linked with a summer exit following the club’s failure to secure European football not to mention their recent financial strife.

Atletico Madrid fresh from the sale of Falcao to Monaco are also interested and while they could also offer Champions League Football City hope they can lure the Spanish International striker.

A move to City would see Negredo link up with his former Sevilla team-mate Jesus Navas.

City could also enter the race for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez following the overnight news that betting had been suspended on the player moving to Arsenal.

In one of the most surprising developments of the summer, the Sun are reporting that William Hill has suspended betting on the want-away striker joining Arsenal are a flurry of bets.

A spokesperson for the bookmaker “it would suggest they have heard something substantial.”

The Uruguayan International has been linked with a move to Real Madrid following a very public flirtation with the La Liga side whilst on International duty at the Confederations Cup.

Liverpool are very keen to keep the player and will consider the prospect of allowing the 26 year old to submit a transfer request. That has not yet materialised, nor for that matter has an official approach from Real Madrid meaning that Arsenal could emerge as surprise suitors.

The Gunners are keen to spend big this summer and have been linked with Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney but the capture of the volatile Suarez would send out a real statement of intent from Arsene Wenger ahead of the new season.

It would remain to be seen would City enter the race should Arsenal make an official approach although with the player voicing his dismay at his perceived treatment at the hands of the FA and English media staying in England does not appear to be an option.
