Throughout much of last season, Hull and Crystal Palace fought tooth and nail in their bid to gain promotion to the Premier League.
Having done just that, the two new Premier League sides are set to battle it out again this time in the transfer market with both interested in signing Aston Villa winger Charles N’Zogbia.
N’Zogbia is not thought to be a major part of Paul Lambert’s plans at Villa Park and the Frenchman could be sold as the club look for ways to reduce their wage bills.
With both of the new Premier League clubs looking for a significant playmaker, the clubs feel that the 27 year old would be the best candidate for their sides.
Some people are feeling that the advantage lay with Hull as manager Steve Bruce has already worked with N’Zogbia after signing him for Wigan from Newcastle back in 2009.
Bruce is thought to be keen on a creative outlet to help rebuild their attacking prowess which is lacking a spark from a player with current Premier League experience.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are lining up the player as a direct replacement for Wilfried Zaha who left the club to return to Manchester United earlier in the summer.
Zaha was a significant contributor to both the goals and assists tally at Selhurst Park last season and the club have yet to find someone to fill the void left by his departure.
There is also plenty of interest though from across the continent in the Frenchman’s services which again could be a major stumbling block for the English clubs.
With interest from European giants such as Schalke, Hamburg, Lyon and Besiktas, N’Zogbia could very well opt for a move to a club with strong chances of winning silverware rather than settling for a mid-table side in the Premier League.
After all, N’Zogbia has never been shy about declaring his interest for playing on the biggest of scales having featured in the Europa League and having played for France.
Despite earning 2 caps for his country, N’Zogbia has fallen away from the big time with some inconsistent form for Villa over the past couple of years after promising spells at Wigan and Newcastle.
A move to Hull or Crystal Palace might be what N’Zogbia needs to kickstart his career as the new Premier League sides would look to give everything to sign a player of his standing before the season starts up again in 3 weeks time.
