Despite a tough opening run that has included trips to the Emirates and Stamford Bridge to face Arsenal and Chelsea as well as home game with Liverpool, Villa already have 3 points on the board and against Newcastle they will look to build on those performances with a victory.

Villa have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 25 games and they will have to end that run without Antonio Luna as he is rated doubtful, Ciaran Clarke could come in. Charles N’Zogbia and Nathan Baker are also rated as doubts while new signing Libor Kozak is set for his debut up front.

Despite sitting a point and a place above Villa in 12th place Newcastle United have made a sluggish start to the season but the signs are that Alan Pardew’s men are improving following their late win over Fulham last time out.

The opening day heavy defeat to Manchester City has been consigned to the history books with the Magpies defence looking solid in the 0-0 draw with West Ham and the 1-0 win over the Cottagers.

The strike-force has yet to gel however with Hatem Ben Arfa winner last time out the only goal that Newcastle have registered this season however with Loic Remy set to be handed his first start. The on-loan QPR striker is poised to replace the misfiring after Papiss Cisse, who has gone 9 Premier League matches without a goal, in the starting line-up.

Definitely out are Jonas Gutierrez and Gabriel Obertan with hamstring injuries as too is left back Ryan Taylor with a knee injury however Mike Williamson is set to return to the squad, so will Yohan Cabaye.

The French midfielder has sat out the start of the season due to personal problem’s linked with a failed bid by Arsenal for his services but he is now set to return and will line out alongside Moussa Sissoko in midfield.

Goals are a massive problem for the Toon at the moment, with the side failing to score in five of the last seven Premier League outings, and once again this appears to be the problem going in to the game at Villa Park.

The responsibility will pass to Loic Remy, who should look to grasp the chance of a first team start, but with Lambert slowly developing his young side and with Christian Benteke in their midst, the Villa look the bet at 11/10 – a price which looks a little on the large side for punters.

This one gets underway at Villa Park at 15:00 GMT.
