Chelsea have entered the chase for long-term Liverpool target Tiago Ilori.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been chasing the Sporting Lisbon defender all summer but has so far failed to strike a deal.
The Portuguese side are believed to want close to £8.5 million for the London born star but so far Liverpool are believed to be only willing to pay £5 million.
That has allowed Chelsea to enter into the running and the club could now move ahead of their rivals for the Portuguese U20 star, who has only made 12 first team appearances, with a reported offer of £7.5 million.
Valencia are also keep tabs on the situation although it is thought that the player is keen to secure a move to the Premier League.
One issue that could put the skids on a move to Stamford Bridge is the players wish for regular first team football something that Mourinho may not be able to offer especially with John Terry, Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanović on the books.
Mourinho also looks set to scupper Liverpool’s as well as Tottenham’s move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
The Blues boss has lined up the Belgian striker as an alternative to Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan striker was the club top target this summer but the 26 year old has opted to leave Napoli for PSG in a multi-million pound move.
Benteke enjoyed a stunning debut season in England scoring 19 goals to secure Villa’s top flight status. His form has attracted a number of suitors but it was widely believed that Liverpool and Spurs were the front runners to sign up the 22 year old former Genk star.
That has changed somewhat now with Chelsea able to offer Champions League football. Mourinho is believed to be keen on the powerful striker and his hand could be strengthened further if Aston Villa firm up their reported interest in a move for Demba Ba.It remains to be seen however if Paul Lambert would entertain the notion of a swap deal involving cash and the former Newcastle striker.
Chelsea are also keen on Zenith St Petersburg’s striker Hulk as well as Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski. While a deal for Brazilian star Hulk could yet materialise a move for Polish star Lewandowski appears doomed for failure with the 24 year old set to move to German Champions Bayern Munich in the next 12 months.
