Last time out the club Bayern won 29 of their 34 games and were confirmed as champions with seven matches remaining, eventually finished 19 points clear of nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund.

With Robert Lewandowski, Pepe Reina and Juan Bernat added to the squad, Bayern have added even more quality although there have been departures with Toni Kroos, Mario Mandzukic and the release Daniel van Buyten all leaving.

The selling of Kroos in particular has raised some concerns about their prospects for the new season especially as the club will head into the Wolfsburg clash with Javi Martinez, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara all out.

Jerome Boateng also misses out through suspension while Rafinha (ankle) and Franck Ribery will both be absent.

Last season, Bayern won 1-0 at home before completing the double over their rivals with a 6-1 away win. The Bavarian giants hold the edge in this fixture with their last defeat coming in 2009. The club gained an early season advantage over their visitors with a 3-0 win in July in the final of the Telekoms cup, a game that saw Lewandowski score twice.

Despite their strong recent record against Wolfsburg, defender Holger Badstuber is expecting a tough test this weekend.

“Wolfsburg are dangerous, because they’ve brought in a lot of potential in recent years. They have plenty of hungry players who are aiming high.”

Wolfsburg for their part are sweating on the fitness of goalkeeper Diego Benaglio as he struggles to overcome a bout of flu while summer signing Nicklas Bendtner is not yet match-fit. The club are also to make a decision on former Bayern man Luiz Gustavo as he edges towards match fitness following a gruelling World Cup campaign with Brazil.
