Arsenal v AC Milan Tues 19:45
After coming out on the wrong end of a battering two weeks ago, Arsenal face the near insurmountable task of reversing a four goal aggregate when they play hosts to AC Milan on Tuesday as Bet365 make them odds against to to win the match at the Emirates.
The Italian outfit finished as 4-0 victors when the two sides met in February and will mainly be focused on defending that lead when they travel to the Emirates this week.
Both sides have momentum going into the encounter, however one would have to admit that Milan appear as favourites to advance in their competition.
In the midst of their Round of 16 thrashing over the Gunners, the Serie A leaders have managed to maintain their push for the league title and are currently enjoying a six-match unbeaten run.
Massimiliano Allegri’s team currently hold the best away form in the Italian top flight, averaging a total of two goals per game when away from their home ground; a statistic the manager will be more eager then ever to prove true in midweek, and in striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic they have a player in superb form after the Swede bagged a hatrick against Palermo last week.
However, their away defence isn’t quite as secure and despite recent form, Arsenal will be hoping to replicate recent league results if they’re to have any chance of overturning a four goal haul.
The North London club have netted a total of 16 goals in their last four league outings including a 5-2 rout over local rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s this kind of inspired form that Arsene Wenger will need if he is to have a chance of remaining in the European competition.
Arsenal will be relying on Robin van Persie to extend his 31-goal tally for the season so far as the Dutchman continues in what he himself described as an ‘insane’ campaign.
The Gunners do have some injury concerns heading into tonight’s crunch encounter, with Mikel Arteta definitely ruled out after suffering a concussion against Livepool last weekend, while Yossi Benayoun and Tomas Rosicky will both face late fitness tests.
Francis Coquelin , centre-back Per Mertesacker and full-back Andre Santos are also out of the game while Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey is still struggling with an ankle problem and this game comes a little too soon.
Wenger will need to utilize all talents at his disposal on Tuesday as the Gunners hope to continue their inspiring run of recent performances.
