Sean Dyche’s men opened up a five point gap over third place Derby last weekend when they beat the Rams 2-0 at Turf Moor and they will hope to claim local bragging rights this weekend against an inconsistent Blackburn side that is currently 10th in the table.

Burnley will be looking for their first win against their rivals since 1979 and midfielder David Jones claims it would bring even more joy to Clarets fans already enjoying a dream season.

“We’ll take a lot of fans there and prepare as we normally do for each game, but there is definitely an added spice,” said Jones, whose team were denied success in that fixture last year by David Dunn’s stoppage-time leveller.

“It’s one we want to win, the same as any other, but for the fans it’s a big one.

“We’re in a good place at the moment but we know you’ve got to be up for every game in this league otherwise you’ll get punished.”

Jones is set to keep his place in the side as Dyche names the same starting 11 for the eight straight game. Key men, such as striker Sam Vokes and Danny Ings, all returned from International duty unscathed meaning that the Clarets have no major worries ahead of the game.

Blackburn meanwhile have a number of worries ahead of the game with centre-backs Grant Hanley and Matt Kilgallon both struggling with calf and groin injuries.

Their absence is likely to mean a debut for Michael Keane. The Manchester United defender, a regular with Derby during a month-loan loan spell at Pride Park earlier in the season, has moved to Ewood Park on loan for the rest of the season and set to go straight into the side.

David Dunn, who scored an injury time equaliser last season, is winning his battle to be fit for the clash however Dickson Etuhu, winger Ben Marshall and January signing Tom Crainey are all out.

Trevor Keane is an Irish based sports writer and the author of Gaffers, 50 years of Irish Managers and Running through Walls, the Dave Langan Story.
