Leeds meanwhile are 18th in the table and are without a win in any of their last five games, drawing three and losing two. Last time out the club went down 2-1 at home to Wolves in a battle of the sleeping giants.
Managerial instability has been part of the problem at Elland Road.
The club have already gone through two permanent managers this season.
Neil Redfearn is the current caretaker of the club but the signs after the former midfielder is set to be handed the reins on a full time basis.
Redfearn revealed during the week that he “had a good chat with Massimo yesterday [Wednesday] and we went through one or two things. It’s not that far away,”
The one-time Barnsley star also revealed that should Leeds owner Massimo Cellino pull the trigger for the third time this season and dispense with him then he would revert back to his current role of the club academy.
The uncertainty around the club has been frustrating for fans but the hope is that the club can kick on for here and mount a challenge.
Despite a poor start to the season they remain just seven points off the play off places and 10 points off top spot, a measure of how competitive the championship is this season.
Redfearn will have Souleymane Doukara available after suspension while Rodolph Austin and Billy Sharp will be assessed before the game.
Cardiff meanwhile are sweating on the fitness of Aron Gunnarsson and Kenwyne Jones.
