Derby vs Ipswich – Scott Carson signs

The 32-year-old Irishman scored one goal in four games during a recent loan spell at Portman Road but has now joined the club on a permanent basis following his release from Leeds.

McCarthy is likely to recall Dean Gerken, young defender Tyrone Mings, Kevin Bru, Darren Ambrose, Luke Hyam and Stephen Hunt retain their places after the sextet were rested for the 1-1 FA Cup draw with Southampton.

Ipswich are unbeaten in their last 11 games and have won each of their last three league games. Overall the club have lost just one of their last 20 league games.

Derby meanwhile have lost one of their last five, a 2-0 reversal at Middlesbrough but they will head into the game on the back of successive wins.

A 4-0 win over Birmingham was followed up by a 2-0 win over Leeds, making it 11 clean sheets for the season.

Manager Steve McClaren is set to hand on-loan Aston Villa striker Darren Bent a debut.

Bent, who last week joined the Rams on loan for the remainder of the season, began his career at Ipswich and on Saturday will make his first return to Portman Road as an opposition player since leaving nine-and-a-half years ago.

Bent has replaced Leon Best in the squad with the former Irish International returning to parent club, Blackburn.

Other that, McClaren has no new injury or suspension worries with Lee Grant, Craig Forsyth, Johnny Russell and Chris Martin all set to be recalled after being rested for the FA Cup win over non-league Southport.
