The KC Stadium in Hull is getting ready to welcome Cardiff City on Wednesday night for the only Championship match of the day.

A win could see Hull overtake second placed Derby depending on the result of their match. The visiting side are ten points behind Hull in ninth place in the league. Brentford could overtake Cardiff if they fail to win whereas a victory could see them climb as high as seventh place in the Championship, depending on other results.

Hull are on a fairly promising run of form, with only a couple of blips spoiling an otherwise impressive series of victories.

The Tigers have managed to beat Burnley and QPR in the Championship and most recently were able to knock out Brighton in the third round of the FA Cup.

The home side will have to adjust to the absence of forward Adama Diomande who is unavailable due to a groin complaint.

The striker is set to be out of action for just shy of a month. Steve Bruce chose to rest several players in the FA Cup victory and they could be recalled for the game against Cardiff.

Alex Bruce and Michael Dawson will not be among the players with a role in Wednesday’s game as both are suffering ongoing knee issues.

Russell Slade has made use of a squad rotation philosophy in recent matches with Cardiff and he is set to continue this approach away at Hull. Cardiff are looking to bounce back from their recent embarrassing FA Cup third round elimination at the hands of Shrewsbury.

The Bluebirds will also be looking to improve upon recent Championship form which saw them drop points to Nottingham Forest, the MK Dons and Birmingham as of late.

Cardiff will have to make adjustments in defense as Sean Morrison has an ongoing knee injury and Ben Turner has an ankle complaint.

Hull City are heavily favoured in this encounter and they are likely to make the most of the opportunity to put some pressure on the top of the table.

A victory could put Hull within a win of top of the Championship Middlesbrough.

Cardiff will be desperately hoping to avoid cementing their position in the middle of the league by salvaging even a point from this encounter.
