There’s a crackerjack of a fixture later this evening as Newcastle take on Sheffield Wednesday with both sides looking at Premier League ambitions coming into the game.
Newcastle United will be without Jonjo Shelvey who will miss the next 5 games after being charged of racial abuse.
Newcastle who are top of the Championship are have secured maximum points from their last three games with just one goal conceded in them as Rafa Benitez’s side look to take over top spot from Chris Hughton’s Brighton.
Both teams however are on top for as Sheffield Wednesday have won 4 of their last 5 with 3 of which being clean sheets. Wednesday will face Newcastle whilst in 6th place, hungry for the opportunity to close the three point gap up to third.
Newcastle United will miss their key player and centre piece, Jonjo Shelvey after he didn’t appeal the 5 game ban sentenced to him from an independent panel of the FA. Also Midfielder Jack Colback misses out with an eye injury, but Cheick Tiote could feature for just a second appearance.
Similarly Wednesday are having difficulty picking their best 11 as they are suffering from somewhat of an injury crisis. Boss Carlos Carvalhal says 5 to 6 a number of his players are carrying knocks.
The silver lining however is Wednesday should have Fernando Forestieri back in their squad after the striker served a three-match ban.
This will be Sheffield Wednesday’s biggest test of the season as both teams are fighting to keep the promotion chances alive. The Magpies are hoping to keep their record against Wednesday going strong as they haven’t lost this fixtures for the last 6 meets against the Owls.
