West Ham kick off their Championship campaign with a vital home game against Cardiff City, who themselves are hoping this season they can go one step further and secure promotion.
Its been a turbulent few months for West Ham but for once, there seems to be an air of calm at Upton Park. Sam Allardyce has arrived at the helm, and has been quick to bring in his old Bolton favourites Kevin Nolan and Matty Taylor.
The squad has been left relatively unchanged from the one that finished bottom of the Premiership. Scott Parker and Carlton Cole have yet to depart, and for once Premiership clubs have failed to prise away relegated club’s star assets.
Sunday sees some high quality football with West Ham v Cardiff City and the Community Shield, which kicks off at 14.30. We are happy to announce that Ladbrokes are offering all squeakybumtime visitors a free £50 bet on any of this afternoons match ups. Be quick to get on board here.
For Cardiff, there has been a period of change, with Dave Jones stepping aside and it is up to Malky McKay to turn the club from ‘nearly men’ and into automatic promotion candidates.
Gone last season’s heroes Craig Bellamy, Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd and in step Kenny Miller and Rob Earnshaw – ‘Ernie’ returning to the club where he made his name, and Bluebird fans will be hoping this home town hero and inspire the side.
Of course, Peter Whittingham still remains, and if he can once again chip in with 15-20 goals from midfield Cardiff could well be Championship challengers. Much will depend however on how the loss of their three pronged attack and the Bluebirds will surely miss the marauding runs of Chris Burke, who also left the club in the summer.
First up though, is the trip to Upton Park and we should be in for a cracker, with both sides surely contesting a place in the Premiership come next May. Who will take the spoils?
The game kicks off at 13.00, live on BBC1.
