Eto’O wants to join Chelsea as mega-rich Anzhi implodes from within

Having been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the past decade, Samuel Eto’O certainly sent shockwaves through the football world when he decided to join little known Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala back in 2011.

Two years on and Anzhi have found themselves in a cash crisis prompting several of their star players including Eto’O to prepare themselves for a possible move away in the not too distant future.

And the Cameroonian goal machine has already picked the club that he wants to go to after stating that he would love a move to Chelsea and be re-united with former boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho and Eto’O worked together at Inter Milan previously and were both part of the squad that won the Champions league back in 2010.

Despite currently earning wages which nearly equate to £37m a year, Eto’O revealed that in an interview that working with someone such as Mourinho is an experience unlike that of any other. When speaking to the press, he said that “there is only one Jose Mourinho. I have played under a lot of great coaches – but there is no other character in the game like Jose.

‘He is one of the best coaches in the world – and we had a lot of success together at Inter Milan. I would like to have the chance to play under him again – because it is never boring when Jose is around,” he added.

With Anzhi open to many bids for the 4x African Player of the Year, several top clubs have shown interest in trying to woo Eto’O back to one of the major European leagues.

Napoli could very well be considered Chelsea’s main rival for the transfer as the club look to continue to build up their squad ahead of their Champions League campaign.

Having lost Edison Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi to PSG in the last two summers, the Serie A runners up will be hoping that signing Eto’O would help them create a new deadly strikeforce alongside Gonzalo Higuain.

But they would be likely to be unable to compete against the financial resources that Chelsea have available to them who themselves have been looking for a regular goalscorer to help them try and secure their first league title in 4 years.

Eto’O has explained his desire to play for Chelsea in the future and with the walls falling left, right and centre at Anzhi, don’t be surprised to see the Cameroonian playing for a top European side before the transfer deadlines ends in two weeks time.
