Swansea have been rocked ahead of their clash with Chelsea with the news that star forward Michu faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Spanish star has endured an injury hit season and faces another 6 weeks out after undergoing ankle surgery.

The 27 year olds absence gives manager Michael Laudrup a real headache with Nathan Dyer ruled out until February after suffering ankle ligament trouble in the recent draw with Norwich.

The Swans, who will head to London on the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat to in-form Everton last time out, will also be without Michael Vorm for the clash but will have Alvaro Vazquez, Leon Britton and Chico all available after they returned to the first team squad for the clash with the Toffees.

Chelsea meanwhile could recall Ashley Cole after the left back missed the clash with Arsenal while Michael Essien should feature after missing Monday’s game through suspension.

Marco van Ginkel is the only long term absentee for the blues and with a top of the table clash with Liverpool looming large Jose Mourinho may opt to give his captain John Terry a much needed break.

The former England star has played every league game this season but could be rested although with Chelsea enjoying only their second clean in their last 12 games Mourinho could be tempted to stick rather than twist.

Depending on results elsewhere a win for Chelsea could see them go second or joint top in the table while Swansea could move into the top half of the table with a surprise result against the Londoners.

Chelsea fans will be out to avenge their surprise 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge in the semi-final of the league cup in January of this year although their league form against the Welsh region which has seen them score 6 and concede 1 at home would point to a Chelsea win.

Mourinho’s side have been impressive at the Bridge winning seven of their 8 games with a draw with WBA the only blip on the record while Swansea have not won in London since 1925, the first meeting between the two sides.
