Jose Mourinho’s “little horses” capped an incredible week that began with a 1-0 win over Manchester City and culminated in a 3-0 success over Newcastle and with it top spot in the Premier league.
The Blues can extend their advantage to four points, for 24 hours at least, on Tuesday when they travel take on the Baggies.
The club’s drew 2-2 at Stamford Bridge when they met in November and Mourniho will be keen to atone for the slip up on that occasion when Eden Hazard netted deep in injury time.
The Belgian has been in stupendous form since and took his tally to 12 goals for the season with a hat-trick in the win over Magpies at the weekend and he will fancy his chances of adding to that tally against a West Brom side that has yet to win since the appointment of Pep Mel.
Draws with Everton and Liverpool have been overshadowed by losses to Aston Villa and Crystal Palace to leave the club in the bottom three of the Premier League.
The Spanish boss has been left frustrated by the performances of his side so far claiming a lack of consistency has cost the club.
“In the first half against Palace we didn’t understand the match,” Mel said. “It was the same at Aston Villa. We need to focus.
“In the second half (at Palace) we played well, with good mentality. The problem is we only played for 45 minutes.
“If we play for only 40 or 60 minutes then it is impossible to beat Chelsea. So I want to see my players play as one team together, pressing together and dropping off together in set-plays.”
Mel will be without Nicolas Anelka, Stephane Sessegnon and Jonas Olsson for the game and is also sweating on the fitness of Billy Jones. The 26 year old is a doubt with a knee problem and will undergo a late fitness test on Tuesday.
On-loan Thievy Bifouma is in line for his first start and scoring on his debut against Palace.
Chelsea meanwhile will welcome back Fernando Torres following a knee injury. The Spanish star has missed the last month but is in line to feature on Tuesday.
John Terry missed out with a minor muscle strain but is in line to return for the FA Cup match with Manchester City.
