Chelsea will be out to add to Aston Villa’s woes when they travel to the Midlands on Saturday.
Paul Lambert’s under pressure side have yet to register a league goal in 2015 and lost 5-0 to Arsenal last time out. The club are currently 16th in the table, just three points outside the relegation zone.
Key to their problem has been a lack of goals. The Villains have managed just 11 all season, the lowest of any club in the top flight. The club are without a win in eight league matches and have lost three in a row.
Exclusive Saturday Offer:
The return of Ron Vlaar, back in action following an injury sustained in early January, should help shore up the defensive side of the game however Lambert will hope that Christian Benteke and Co. can start firing on all cylinders again sooner rather than later.
Chelsea meanwhile have had no such troubles scoring. The division’s most prolific side have scored 52 goals this season and while they will be without top scorer Diego Costa this weekend the inclusion of new signing Juan Cuadrado should ensure that Loic Remy, a scorer in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend, has another supplier of ammunition.
Chelsea appear in control of the destiny of the title with Willian revealing that manager Jose Mourinho has been using talk of a campaign against Chelsea to motivate the players.
“I think he says these things to protect our group,” the Brazil midfielder told Perform.
“So he says it to motivate us and show he is with us all the time. Sometimes he says things to the media in order to make us stronger.
“As we are top of the league, everyone wants to steal our position. That is why he wants us to be aware of it and maintain focus.”
