The Chelsea manager was unable to convince the former Czech Republic number 1 to stay at Stamford Bridge but has come out in the papers to say that he respects the player’s decision.
The emergence of Thibaut Courtois last season resulted in Cech being confined to the bench and with Jose Mourinho clearly satisfied with the young Belgian international’s performances, the former Stade Rennais man knew that leaving Stamford Bridge would be the sanest of choices he would be making.
As a result, the player made an improbable switch to Arsenal – something that has riled up a few fans. And Jose Mourinho, who is not really a good sport when it comes to selling star players to rival clubs, says that he has to respect his former’s player’s decision.
“Petr has been a great servant for Chelsea for 11 years and helped this club to win almost everything there is to win,” Mourinho said.”
“I always said I wanted him to stay but I understand Petr needed to move on to play first team football every week. Sometimes you have to respect the wishes of someone who has earned so much respect with his service and actions for your club.”
