The Nigerian international was hotly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge but it appears that he will have to stay at the club for now after Jose Mourinho vetoed a move away from the club
Following the arrival of Nemanja Matic from Benfica and the emergence of young Naftus Loft-Cheek, the Nigerian international fell down the pecking order and started only six games for the Blues last season. The midfielder had hotly been linked with a move to United Arab Emirates with Al-Ain and Al-Wahda both vying for his signature.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce were also interested in the player but his wage demands and Chelsea’s asking fee meant that the move was never going to materialise. Now, sources close to the club say that Mikel will see out the remaining two years of his contract.
“There’s absolutely no truth to reports linking Mikel with a move to Turkey or any Chinese club for that matter,” a source close to the talks told BBC Sport.
“Only two clubs from the UAE showed strong interest last month but they could not meet his club’s valuation.
“Mikel has a contract with Chelsea until 2017, as things stand he will not be leaving the club this transfer window as speculated.”
