Cagliari club’s manager has confirmed that Blues have made a transfer approach for the Ghanaian starlet Godfred Donsah.
The 18-year-old midfielder showed impressive panoply of performance with Cagliari last season, and has garnered the interest of number of top clubs, including Premier League champions Chelsea and Serie A title holders Juventus.
Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini confirmed today that the Blues are interested in Donsah. Cagliari have already turned down Juve’s £4.2million bid for the Ghanaian talent, and latest reports say that Sampdoria, Bologna and Liverpool are also in race for the midfielder. However, the Italian side is reluctant to separate ways with 18-year-old Donsah, who is already being compared to the likes of Chelsea legend Michael Essien.
“We had a chat a few weeks ago with Juventus and Chelsea, but I am stunned by all these rumours around him,” Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini said.
“The lad needs to grow up with us.
“We have many other players on low wages and their contracts will be renewed at the right time, including Donsah’s.
“We received a request to attend a meeting via a lawyer, but I am accustomed to doing things a different way. As soon as the right moment comes, we’ll be happy to renew his contract.”
